DUKE UNIVERSITY TO COLLABORATE WITH NEUROSURGERY DEPARTMENT
The Hospital’s Neurosurgery Department has started a collaboration with Duke University based on Research in Neurosurgery cases in the Hospital and in Western Kenya.
The Head of Neurosurgery Department at the facility Dr. Florentius Koech said the collaboration took off with Dr. Steve Parker’s visit to the Hospital for six weeks, performing Neurosurgery cases.
Dr. Parker and Dr. Koech are currently carrying out Neurosurgery, spine operation and assessing Neurosurgery cases in the Western Region in collaboration with the Hospital Doctor’s. They will institute measures that will prevent mortality arising from tumors and other head injuries.
Separately, the parties will also assess the department’s Intensive Care Unit and its equipment. Dr. Parker and Dr. Koech are currently carrying out Neurosurgery and spine operations.
Joining the team from Duke University and MTRH’s Neurosurgery Department are world-renowned specialists from Valencia, Spain who will be in the Hospital for the Pituitary Tumors Mission from June 2 to June 5. The specialists led by Prof. Pedros are the inventors of Transphenodial Approach to Pituitary Surgery.
