HCT COUNSELORS SET FOR SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY

The Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital continues to graduate competent HCT Counselors to the community whose role is to change lives and bring sanity in the fight against the HIV AIDS scourge. The Hospital Chief Nurse Mrs. Jane Nyariki said MTRH is now playing a leading role in shaping health sector owing to the attainment of ISO 9001:2008 certification on Healthcare Delivery, Training and Health Research.
The statistics from various health facilities in the North Rift indicate that HCT Counselors graduating from Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital training centre continue to hold sway in those being considered for employment owing to the in-depth skill they have acquired.
During the seventh graduation ceremony that was held on 26 February 2010 at the Hospital’s training centre, the graduands were informed that those who trained before them have been absorbed in the community and governmental departments.
Dr. Wilson Aruasa, the Hospital’s ADDCS/QMR said that the Management attaches great importance to the crucial role played by the counselors in the fight against the scourge. He said there are 60% percent of Kenyans who do not know their status and it is the responsibility of the counselors to impart this crucial knowledge to them.
He also added that the Vision 2030 on healthcare is clear on promotive and preventive measures on HIV/Aids scourge, saying one of the Hospital’s role is to assist the government achieve the vision.
The Deputy Director Clinical Services, Dr. Omar Aly who officiated the closing ceremony said the hospital appreciates the support the hospital receives from NASCOP, saying its unyielding support has boosted the Hospital’s drive against the HIV/Aids.
He urged the counselors to go out with a sharpened focus to help reshape the lives of many in the society.
Present during the closing ceremony were Assistant Deputy Director Finance and Administration Ms. Lily Koros, Division of Clinical Support Chairman, Mr Gatetua Mungai and other members of the management. |
