[Wednesday, 03 March, 2010, 15:30]
The Moi Teaching Referral Hospital is holding a weeklong hand therapy workshop from 1st-5th March 2010. The training is facilitated by Margaretta Persson, the immediate President of Certified Hand Therapy from Sweden.
This is the first ever training on hand therapy and hand splitting to be conducted in Kenya. The participants are occupational therapists from Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, Kenyatta National Hospital, the Nairobi Hospital, the Aga Khan Hospital, all Provincial Hospitals and District Hospitals from across the country. The training has also attracted occupational therapists from Uganda. Hand therapy is a specialized skill training in occupational therapy that functions through the rehabilitation of the hand, which is a very important part of the human body.
While opening the workshop, the Hospital’s QMR/ADDCS, Dr. Wilson Aruasa said the training would make the participants better equipped with scientifically proven techniques and skills on hand rehabilitation. Dr. Aruasa said the participants would also gain professional experience that focuses on patient medical requirements.
This hand therapy training will be followed by another similar one to be held in Orlando, Florida, USA , by the International Federation of Hand Therapy Congress and will be attended by MTRH’s Occupational therapist Mark Yego.
