Patients recovering from alcoholism at Moi Teaching and Referral’s Hospital Alcohol and Drug Abuse (ADA) Rehabilitation Centre are receiving alcoholic anonymous counseling to hasten their recovery. Patients admitted to the Psychiatric Ward are also counseled by the Hospital staff led by the Hospital’s Chaplain.
The sessions are meant to help patients with adverse alcoholic effects return to normal life through spiritual-guided teachings.

At the ADA Unit, the sessions have been thorough and patients are urged to open up and discuss all their experiences about their past alcoholic lives. These experiences have served to provide useful knowledge to the counselors which come handy in counselling patients in future.

It emerged that there are many people undergoing alcoholic trauma and are yet to register for treatment and counseling at the Hospital. One recovering alcoholic who was candid in his testimony vowed that he has done drugs and was living in denial but is now ready to restart restructuring his life.

He called on all those still immersed in alcoholism and drug abuse to come forward and rediscover their lives. He said quitting alcoholism requires a personal initiative.Speaking passionately, he lamented that had it not been for alcoholism, he could not have lost his entire teeth.“My teeth were knocked down by a hard object but fell off on their own due to adverse drug consumption.”The patients are scheduled to go through 12 sessions to achieve a complete recovery process.
