The Annual Neurosurgery Project for 2012 at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) has received a boost after it was joined by experts from the Indiana University’s Neurosurgery Department.

Hospital’s Neurosurgeon, Dr. Florentius Koech, will be joined by Prof. Daniel Fulkerson, a Paediatric Neurosurgeon and Dr. Brad Bohnstedt, a General Neurosurgeon) for the Project that will run from 30^th July to 3^rd August, 2012.

Dr. Koech said that they have booked over 20 complex brain and spine cases for the week-long event.

The team paid a courtesy call to the Hospital’s Director, Dr. John Kibosia at his office on 30^thJuly, 2012.

“We still have a big shortage of Neurosurgeons in the country. I am glad that we have three Residents/Registrars pursuing the course at the University of Nairobi,” said Dr. Kibosia.

He expressed gratitude to the Indiana University for their long-standing collaboration with the Hospital over the years.

“The Hospital is in the process of expanding the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) from the current 6-bed to a 20-bed facility. Additionally, we shall also acquire a CT Scan machine with a higher resolution which will enhance our capacity to handle more complex cases,” he added.
