Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) is ahead of most medical facilities in the country in the management of HIV/AIDS, the Hospital’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr. John Kibosia,has said.

Dr. Kibosia was speaking shortly after meeting officials from Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) HIV Testing and Counseling team, who had paid him a courtesy call in his office, on September 11, 2012.

The team led by Ms. Rosemary Mutua of KNH, Ms. Betty Chepkwony of NASCOP and Mr. Yasushi Sawazaki of JICA are in the facility for a three-day benchmarking exercise. They will be visiting Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare (AMPATH) sites and projects.

“AMPATH Programme is a household name in this country in terms of HIV/AIDS management, particularly in demystifying the scourge,” he said.

He lauded Moi University, College of Health Sciences’ programmes, for being ‘community based’ which AMPATH Model has borrowed from and incorporated fully in its activities.

According to the officials, the visit was aimed at exchanging ideas with MTRH; through its AMPATH programme for objective learning of the perpetual Home-Based Counseling and Testing (PHTC) Model among other HTC activities.

Present during the courtesy call were Hospital Chief Nurse, Mr. Titus Tarus and the Ag. Programme Manager-AMPATH, Dr. Samson Ndege.
