Chairman: I will make MTRH a Centre of Excellence
The newly appointed Chairman of the Board of Management at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, Prof. Abdulghafur H.S. El-Busaidy, has pledged to ensure that the second largest referral facility in the country becomes a Centre of Excellence in the Country.
“Whatever I can do, I will do. I will endeavour to give my best so as to steer this facility to even greater heights,” he said.
Prof. El-Busaidy was speaking shortly after a familiarization tour of the Hospital. Accompanied by the Director, Dr. John Kibosia and other Senior Managers’ the Board Chairman visited the Sick Child Clinic, Accident and Emergency, Riley Mother and Baby Hospital, Training Centre, Renal Unit, Medical Wards, Sally Test Paediatric Centre and the Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare (AMPATH).
He later paid a courtesy call to the Ag. Principal-College of Health Sciences-Moi University, Prof. Paul Ayuo at his office.
The Board Chairman lauded the collaboration between Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and Moi University adding that it should be nurtured to grow from strength to strength.
Speaking at the same function, the Director Dr. Kibosia said that the Hospital would soon be paperless after a successful roll-out of the Integrated Hospital Management System (IHMS) which has since resulted in improved revenue at the facility.
He added that the piping of the oxygen to the entire Hospital will also commence in due course.
Dr. Kibosia said that the Hospital is also currently pursuing other projects including; Children’s Hospital and Chronic Diseases Centre, through the Public Private Partnerships (PPP).
The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces of the Republic of Kenya, H.E Mwai Kibaki, appointed Prof. Abdulghafur H.S. El-Busaidy to serve as Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital’s Board Chairman for three years, effective 24th April, 2012.
The appointment was published in a special issue of the Gazette Notice Vol. CXIV No. 34 of 27th April, 2012.
Prof. El-Busaidy takes over the reigns of the Board chairmanship from Hon. Prof. Ruth Oniang’o.
