IREC Reconstituted
The Chief Executive Officer of Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), Dr. John Kibosia and the Principal, College of Health Sciences (CHS), Prof. Fabian Esamai have jointly re-constituted the Institutional Research and Ethics Committee (IREC).
IREC serves as the regulatory entity for research at MTRH and at the Moi University’s College of Health Sciences. It is accredited by the Kenya National Council of Sciences and Technology and registered with United States Office of Human Research Protection (OHRP).
It is committed to entrenching a rich ethical research culture within the two institutions. Its role is to review, evaluate and decide on the scientific and ethical merits of all proposals to the organizations, as it ensures and guarantees the rights, dignity, safety and protection of the subjects.
In a memo dated February 17, 2012, the duo appointed Prof. Edwin Were as the chair with Dr. Wilson Aruasa as his deputy.
Others in the committee are; Dr. Peter Gatongi, Prof. Robert Tenge, Prof. David Ayuku, Prof. Maged M. Lofty, Prof. Thomas Inui, Dr. Francis Ogaro, Dr. Irine Marete, Mr. Titus Tarus, Rev. Joseph Katwa, Ms. Sylvia Nyariki, Mr. Richard Ogutu, Ms. Ann Mwangi, Ms. Jepchirchir Kiplagat and Mr. Francis Meres.
The Human Subjects’ Administrator will be Ms. Catherine Okwiri.
The appointments take effect immediately.
