The Hospital’s General Engineering Department is responsible for supervising all Hospital buildings and repair works. The department is responsible for ensuring that all buildings and fixations are of ideal quality and standard. The department is sub-divided into three main sections namely.

Electrical section, Mechanical section and, Civil and building section.

The projects under General Engineering and maintenance include:

Supplies Warehouse

Supplies department had scarse space to store supplies received by the hospital. Equally Ampath Center, also wanted a place to store their supplies thus the idea of constructing a bigger store was conceived. The supplies store measures 48m by 20m with the capacity of storing upto approximately 7680 tonnes in its ground floor which will be mainly used by Hospital, the basement measures  24m by20m which will be mainly used by the Ampath Center to keep its supplies. Eldorosta Construction Company is constructing the store under the supervision of the department.

Normal Repairs and Maintenance

The normal repairs  are done on a  day to day basis, the masons ensure that all building and structures are kept in good condition by ensuring  that there are no cracks on the walls and the  general condition of the  building are habitable, the carpenters ensures that all wooden furniture and fitting are in good condition. The painters also ensure that the walls both internal and external are kept clean under this sub section. We have a sign writer who ensures that all buildings and signs are clearly identified and lastly the Mechanical engineers ensure that all metallic furniture and fittings are in good order. They also ensure that the small petrol/ Diesel machine such as lawn mowers are working well; the mechanical engineers also work closely with Electricians to maintain the Generators.

Electricity and Water Purification And Piping

The department’s Electrical technicians always ensure that all non-medical Electrical and Electronics gadgets are in good working condition and are safe to use.
They also keep an eye on the standby power generators to make sure they can function well whenever there is a power failure.

The water treatment plant is at the stage of installation of water purifying machine and the installation of 3-phase power. On completion, this will help the hospital not only in getting clean water, but will too reduce monthly water expenses

Waste Management

As most of the departments around the Hospital have a role to play in Waste Management, the General Engineering department has its role by ensuring that the Incinerator is working ,this is achieved by routine servicing and maintenance of the incinerator, the department is also involved in the installation and repair of drainage and sewerage system in the Hospital.

Advising the Management on Critical Issues and Maximum Utilization of Land

The department reviews and updates the Hospital’s Physical Plan, by adding on the plan the structure that has been newly constructed. This assists the Management to know the available land space.

The department also ensures that all utility services such as, Electricity and water are well managed in terms of consumption and that they are paid for on time. It also updates the registration of Hospital building and the management of residential houses.

***FIRE SAFETY MANAGEMENT***
The fire management is actually under the docket of security but the department of General Engineering has some roles to play. These include the management of: Water hose reels, Escape routes, Water hydrants, the fire blankets
