The Karibu Limburg rehabilitative project at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) received a substantial boost in terms of books and other assorted medical items from the Rotary Club in the Netherlands.

The support from the Rotary will ensure people living in Eldoret and its environs, and have mentally sick persons, get an opportunity to lead normal life through the project.

The Limburg Project acts as a key therapeutic exercise in introducing patients to the home environment as well as helping patients achieve maximum rehabilitation. Limburg Project enhances patients’ independence in all spheres of a person’s daily chores.

The Rotary Club officials and Prof. Rudolf Ponds visited the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital’s Occupational Therapy and Kenya Ward on 10^th May 2012.

Prof. Rudolf also supervised a Masters Student who is currently researching in Moi University, School of Medicine.

The team later paid a courtesy call to the Ag. Director Dr. Omar Aly, who was flanked by the Deputy Director Administration and Finance, Mr. Agunda Ochanda, at his office.

“The Limburg Project has since done an enormous rehabilitation to the patients, who before discharge from the Hospital go through the Limburg,” he said.

The Karibu Limburg is mental health project started in April 2010 under the Department Of Occupational Therapy. The project was initiated by Prof Rudolf Ponds and his wife Ingrid who is from Maastricht University in the Netherlands. The aim of the project is to enhance clients’ independence in all areas of activities of daily Living (ADLs) and to develop pre-vocational skills and job placement in readiness of integrating the clients with community.
