President Appoints New Board Chairman
The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces of the Republic of Kenya, H.E Mwai Kibaki, has appointed Prof. Abdulghafur H.S. El-Busaidy to serve as Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital’s Board Chairman for three years, effective 24th April, 2012.The appointment was published in a special issue of the Gazette Notice Vol. CXIV No. 34 of 27th April, 2012.Prof. El-Busaidy takes over the reigns of the Board chairmanship from Hon. Prof. Ruth Oniang’o.
He is currently a professor at the Department of Chemistry, University of Nairobi and Chairman of Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) as well as Chairman of the Islamic Development Bank Education Trust Kenya.
He has served in a numerous capacities within and outside the country: inside the University of Nairobi, Chairman of the Kenya Institute for Special Education Council, Chairman of the Mombasa Polytechnic University College Council. He is the Founder and Chairman of the Kenya Chemical Society and Chairman of the Africa Network of Scientific and Technical Institutes under UNESCO. He served as the Director, Central Bank of Kenya between 1985 and 1992.
Prof. Busaidy has published several scientific papers in international journals and participated in numerous international conferences and workshops. He holds a BSc Degree from the University of Nairobi and Dr. Ing from the University of Trodheim, Sweden.
The appointment comes barely five months after the Minister for Medical Services, Hon. Prof. Peter. A. Nyong’o appointed three new members vide Gazette Notice Vol. CXIII No. 15788 of December 16, 2011 to the serve in the Board for five years.
The three are; Dr. Nelly Yatich, Ms. Eunice Wangari Wambugu and Mr. Katwa Kigen effectively revoking the appointments of Mr. Said Kaitany, Mr. Musa Lochom Ewoi and Ms. Hellen Yego.
Officials from Moi University, Prime Minister’s office, Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Medical Services and the Ministry of Finance are represented at the Board.
