The department of Biomedical Engineering falls under the division of clinical support, which in turn falls under the Deputy Director Clinical Service. Biomedical Engineering has been there since the establishment of the hospital providing the essential service of Maintenance Department. In October 2005, Maintenance Department thus caters for all Biomedical Equipment and hospital plant needs.

Main Objective
The main objective of this department is to have a well equipped workshop that will handle the Maintenance, Installation, Commissioning, Servicing, Decommissioning and Training of users on the functionality of all Biomedical Equipment.

Our vision is to improve the users satisfaction on the repair work done and to ensure safety on all Medical Equipment.

Core Responsibilities
The Biomedical Engineering Department performs the essential service delivery of most Biomedical Engineering works.

The Department is involved in the following activities

• Planned Preventive Maintenance
• Medical Equipment Service
• Medical Equipment Repair
• Conducting Users Training
• Installation and Commissioning of Medical Equipment & hospital plants
• Decommissioning of obsolete equipment during operations

Future Plans
The departments’ future plan is to decentralize the services close to the user. This will be achieved by setting up satellite workshops in all major departments. The satellite workshop will be fully equipped with tools and testing kits. The department operates on a 24 Hour basis.
